Acute back injury - come to the Gwinnett Urgent Care Center in Suwanee.

If you've suffered an acute back injury, we can help.

Back pain is a common symptom which brings many millions of people to see their medical providers on an annual basis.

Causes of Acute Back Injury

A vast majority of back pain is caused by injury to soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, and tendons) and the symptoms will improve on their own within 7-10 days. Occassionally, however, back injuries can be caused by a more serious condition such as a herniated or bulging disk, bone spur, fractured vertebrae, or spinal stenosis. Our qualified medical professionals can be helpful to decide if the symptom is serious or should merely be treated with pain medication and muscle relaxers.

Severe Acute Back Injury

If the back pain is so severe that it is limiting function or if the pain is not improving with over the counter medicines 48 hours after onset, it may be beneficial to be seen by a medical professional. Sensory, motor, and strength testing will give insight into the severity of the condition. If there was a trauma which precipitated the injury, an X-ray may identify some anatomic abnormality.

Generally speaking, however, oral medications and limitation of physical activity will be sufficient to ensure a complete recovery. Our medical professionals can determine if a work excuse or limitation to light duty would be necessary due to the acute back injury.
